Scratch

Scratch is a free online coding tool which uses block-based programming to enable students to create animations, games, and interactive stories using sounds and images. With potential for creative sound and music functionality, there are many possibilities for creative musical endeavours. This is a whole new way of making music by sequencing sounds, all within a coding environment. My son spends a good deal of his spare time creating personal projects on Scratch, so he was more than willing to give me a few tips.

Here is my project with instructions for use:

Click on the individual sprite or use the keyboard function -

A = bass guitar pattern

S = electric guitar pattern

D = vocal pattern

F = saxophone pattern

J = drumkit pattern

K = hi-hat pattern

Press down several keys simultaneously to listen to the parts together, or try all the keys at once!

left arrow = bass drum sound

up arrow = snare drum sound

down arrow = side stick sound

right arrow = hi-hat sound
